Grand Bali Beach - Sanur's Shame
The Grand Bali Beach Hotel was built using an illegally obtained building permit under the Suharto Government (read our page on the Suharto Government - it tells you how they killed 100,000 Balinese in one year alone).

The "GBB" is a ghastly tower block (the only one on Bali) which was built above the level of the palm trees in breach of Balinese law.

The Grand Bali Beach is on the beach in Sanur, but has one of the dirtiest sections of beach in Bali. Instead of cleaning the shoreline, the hotel simply blames others for ruining the beach outside their fugly hotel. Yes, you are right, if the hotel had any concern for it's guests, it would employ staff to clean the beach area. Also, please remember, Sanur Beach has probably the most polluted waters in Bali (see our health page for more information) and has serious beach erosion problems (caused by greedy developers using the coral reef for cement).
