I e-mailed the questions posted on your website to the e-mail address listed on the direct villa website that were are planning on visiting as well as the online Bali travel agent we are planning on booking it through. The latter had no problem answering them, but the direct villa website contact wrote me this:

Your questions regarding our villa is both presumptuous, insulting and arrogant. What gives you the right to ask such questions?

Who the hell do you think you are!

Actually after 911 most American's we encounter are not the good natured well- intended souls they used to be. It is the return of the "Ugly American". No one wants you people like you. We are ashamed.

You are not welcome here. Stay home.

I’m not sure what to do now. We could go through the travel agent who apparently didn’t have a problem with these questions, but this person now knows the dates that we are staying there, and I’m concerned for our group’s safety in light of this. Was there anything in these questions that could be considered rude or insulting by the local Balinese? That was absolutely not my intention. I was trying to be a respectful traveler.

Please advise.

Thank you for your reply. We will definitely not be staying at the villa in question, in light of these events. I forwarded this reply to another e-mail address listed on the villa's site, and here's the response I received this morning:

I would not stay at Pantai Biru. I have had a falling out with the owner some 6 months ago and the villa is badly run anyhow. The staff
underpaid, it is dirty and water out of the taps is SaltWater not to
mention the owner has his very own hidden room with balcony that
overlooks the villa. So when your in the Pool there is a good chance the owner is peering down on you.

You may want to add this villa to your list of accommodations to avoid on your site.
